Cultural difference always known to vary significantly from country to country.
To Siaopo's surprise, these differences do exist between states in a similar country. People coming from different states actually perceive things in a different way!
Born and bred Penangite Siaopo has always believe this dish as a celebration dish for Baby Full Moon or Dato Kong Prayers. On the other hand, Kuala Lumpurian hubby reckons this dish as a typical prisoner food (makanan penjara) !!!
Siaopo is speechless...
Chicken Curry
Ingredients
8 chicken drumsticks
2 potatoes ( cut small pieces)
1/2 can of coconut milk
2 tbsp curry paste
2 tbsp curry powder
salt and sugar to taste
Method
- Mix well curry paste and curry powder into a bowl.
- Heat oil in a wok. Saute the curry mixture till fragrant.
- Add in chicken and potatoes.
- Add in coconut milk and bring it up to boil. Add salt and sugar.
- Simmer for 20-30 minutes
Ingredients
3 cups of rice (washed)
1 tbsp coriander seeds
1 tbsp cumin seeds
2 cardamons
1 cinnamon sticks
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
Method
- Fry the spices till fragrant with butter.
- Add in rice, turmeric powder and salt.
- Stir well. Transfer to rice cooker.
- Cook for 30-40 minutes.
For Nasi Kunyit, replace the rice with glutinous rice and add some coconut milk.
