Worthy Sunday

A worthy Sunday. Charity activity.

Since recovering from operation last year, it's been on Siaopo's mind, to stop sitting on her arse and start doing some good.

Like so many other things she wanted to do post-recovering, nothing has gotten done apart from finishing her teaching degree.

Which, Siaopo suppose, happens to nearly everyone.

So, when Siaopo's dear friend D called her in early March for a charity run - a race for the cancer research - she jumped !

Armed with all the running gears in pink, both Siaopo and D trawled their legs this morning running the 5 km Race For Life.

Siaopo races for life for her beloved grandpa who Siaopo's family lost him of stomach cancer in 2002.

Siaopo just wanted to say a huge thank you to D and hubby for being so supportive.

She felt pretty tired but it has made a huge difference knowing what she was doing is raising money for cancer research charity.
Siaopo felt so proud of the shirt she was wearing and to run in memory of her grandpa (ah kong).
Siaopo's so proud that she finished the race in 34 minutes.

Now, she's got aching legs..........

Netbook

Siaopo's a newborn sort of "netbook" user.

She hates it. She hates it when is too small to create her teaching slides.

She hates it when the screen is too small to view emails and students information.

The school has kindly given her an 10 inch netbook but she's just hates it !

Hopefully, time will help her to love it...haha

Music

How Siaopo doesn't enjoy this.

Today, Siaopo was requested to take over a music class due to the absence of the music teacher.

Siaopo has no choice but to agree due to the contract she has with the school before September.

Apart from Maths, she has to cover for any classes if requested....

Siaopo has given up music for ages. She shows no sign of interest in music.

Today, Siaopo looked over at the piano in the music class and still find it mind-blogging
that 16 years ago, it was a bunch of cells in her.

Siaopo wonders : How on earth she could literally pass her Grade 7 piano in her teens and spent 7 years playing an instrument that she has no interest at all ?

To be precise, Siaopo has no music genes.

To be more precise, she hates music.

The students were given worksheet to complete by their music teacher. Siaopo has to go through the answers with them.

Students : " Miss, what's the answer?"

With gritted teeth, Siaopo went..." Err..I am sorry. I don't know. I failed music when I was in school."

Siaopo, the big fat liar !

Unbelievable Affair

In another of her personal fate about-turns, Siaopo's luck once again blooms !

In more ways than one.

But it's all a shock to Siaopo, sort of like collectively sticking her fingers into a live electric socket.

She screamed with joy when she collected her main postgraduate assignment result.

(Siaopo's essay abstract )

Siaopo couldn't believe it the first moment she saw her mark, never ever in her entire life has she EVER expect that high mark.

Yes, she has got 78 for her essay !

The highest mark she expected was just 53 , and she has got 25 marks more than her expectation.

Why 53 and not 50 for a pass?

Is because
Durham university's marking scheme : either 3 or 8, therefore 53 is a minimum pass.

Anyway, it's still an unbelievable affair.

Money or sense of achievement ?

Some people would call Siaopo plain crazy or money-hungry.

Siaopo finished her teaching degree practice on Friday and accepted an offer to start in her new school
on the coming Monday. ( Initial contract was to start in coming September)

Yes, just a weekend off and then she'll start working as a qualified teacher, just in time to top-up her bank account as her government scholarship ended a week ago.

Question reads : Does Siaopo choose the financial reward as the main reason for accepting the job offer, or does she placed money behind the feeling of being good at her teaching profession and using her brain?

Answer : A bit of both. But which one more ?

Siaopo hates to be lady of leisure, hates being loss of income and hates to increase hubby's financial burden.

Thus, hypothesis proven.

Siaopo's........the money-hungry lady.

Home-cook Food

There's been a big shift in hubby's meal routine : He's now back to home-cook food.

After a year on KFC, McDonalds and ready-meal, he finally get to taste his wife's cooking once again!

Hubby wanted a nasi lemak but Siaopo couldn’t get coconut milk at Morrison.

Siaopo decided to spring a surprise.

She made Hainan Chicken Rice instead.

Hubby was definitely a happy-bunny !

Thinking Dice

Siaopo gets incredibly excited whenever she came across some new teaching tool !

A new learning game developed to improve students's thinking skills -the 16 habits of mind.

Yes, she's ordered it and can't wait to try them in one of her lessons next week...

Hmm... where should she slot in the lesson - as a starter or plenary ?

Perfect for her students to understand the concept and idea of the lesson. Okay, plenary.

Go on then....

Monday, 25 April 2011

The Writing Days....

Every teachers are off gallivanting in Easter.

But, for student teachers like Siaopo, the writing days has begun.....

Final assignment. Final thesis writing and she'll be done with her teaching degree and officially a TEACHER !

Siaopo has been tearing her hair out these few days, trying to finish the 5000 words argumentative essay before school reopens next two weeks.

The big topic here. Motivation For Achievement in Mathematics: Findings and criticisms of the Research.

Bless her.

Dream Job !!!

Siaopo has been holding her breaths : Is she going to get a job after her teaching degree ? Will she be able to impress the school governors , headteachers and the senior leadership during the interview session and the lesson she will be teaching during the interview day
?

Siaopo has been blessed.

She has got a job offer from one of the outstanding schools in Newcastle to start straight after her teaching degree in September !

Students in the school are lovely as majority will be from affluent social background.
Siaopo has got her dream job ! ( one of her two dream jobs ha ha)

Now, she just need to focus on her teaching degree.

Giving up !

Siaopo, exhausted both mentally and physically is at the verge of giving up her teaching challenge !

She doubts.....

Doubt is when she realise that teaching might not be right for her.
Doubt is when she thinks she could have her life back for NOT sleeping at one in the morning every nights and weekends, doing her lessons planning, university work, marking the student's book and etc......

Two course-mates has dropped out from the course and Siaopo is not far behind !

Since getting into this teaching affairs, Siaopo's lifestyle is in a total mess...
Breakfast - Biscuits with COFFEE and RED BULL
LUNCH - BREAD with another cup of COFFEE
Dinner - Morrison or Asda ready meal OR McDonald with LUCOZADE
Supper - Coffee and biscuits

No cooking, no ironing, no cleaning completely !

She's so proud that she has a lovely hubby who does all the above mentioned chores for her.

Funny Conversation...

Supporting statement about how stupid Siaopo is, in terms of common sense and general knowledge.

Is World Book Day and one of her student asked her this morning.

Student : Miss Miss, what do you call Shakespeare's wife ?
Siaopo : Err.....Mrs Shakespeare ?
Student : Wrong Miss, is Anne Hathaway. Do you not learn in school last time?

Siaopo was speechless...........!! How can she be that ignorant ? She visited Hathaway's cottage with Lufbra couple 2 years ago !

Hypotheses proven - Siaopo is stupid.

What passions like....

Everyone thinks a brave woman who says : I have passion for teaching. I am quiting my well-paid job to be trained as a teacher.

Siaopo's not brave, and she's sure that she is not the first woman to feel so.

From the start, when she made snap decision to quit her Project Management job, she knew she could make a difference in her life as well as young people as a dedicated educationist.

So she decided to apply to the teaching council. She successfully receive a bursary for the training after a 2 years of preparation of collecting profiles in teaching and going through interviews and examinations. At that moment, she was so proud that she was amongst the 22 people who successfully receive the bursary for the subject course in Durham University.

So, she continues pursuing her dream with passion.

She's proud of never having to take a single cent from hubby. Bursary from the government is more than enough. She doesn't need to give up her financially independence.

But, life has been stressful throughout.

Teaching degree in United Kingdom is notoriously difficult.

For the past years, everytime she mentioned that, friends will tell her " NOOO, do not do it. Is very difficult". She ignored all the advices. Silly her.

Now, having gone through the course, indeed she has made her own life so difficult.

Is Durham University the reason to her suffering ? Because it is the third best university after Oxford and Cambridge? Siaopo has no clue at all.

Always known as leading university alternatives to Oxford and Cambridge, Siaopo's attending this postgraduate course with a bunch of genius, middle-class, porsh accent southerner people who majority went to British Independent Schools, and ex-Oxbridge ( oxford and Cambridge ) and Durham Universities graduates .

Siaopo just feel stupid and rubbish among them. ( Siaopo is rubbish in knowledge wise, profiency in English language, common sense and etc ). Don't get her wrong. All the coursemates are helpful, lovely and down to earth. Siaopo knows well that she shouldn't feel that way.

Being the only etnic-minority in the class, and the only person who was brought up abroad and went to a non-British schools, just made her feel very low in self-confidence and esteem.

Struggling between university assignments, lesson planning and teaching at school had taken a toll on her.

She's done Engineering, IT, Project Management qualifications in the past and nothing beats this postgraduate teaching degree ! Horrendous, tough, madness....

Coffee, Red Bull, Pharmaton, Berroca - you name it, she has it !

She just can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Should or shouldn't she give up ?

Teaching definitely bites her ! Ouch.......

2011 New Year's Resolution

Post-Christmas, along came the New Year.

For the matter, if you're like 60 million British or 20 million Malaysian, is time to make a New Year resolution.

So, what's Siapo's 2011 New Year's resolutions then?

No 1 :Spend more time with hubby and family
Since started her academic career, Siaopo seems to have abandoned hubby (in a nice way of course). This year, she vows to appreciate loved ones and spend more time with family. Siaopo kept her finger crossed on her plan to spend few months with her family over the coming summer.

No 2 : Be more healthy

Stop eating junk.Cook more healthy meals for herself and hubby.

No 3 :Learn something new -
我想学习中文
Stop being a BANANA and try to sit for Mandarin examination.

No 4: Get organised and work hard on her postgraduate course

No 5: Continue her teaching volunteer work at church

No 6 :Continue to keep her house as tidy as possible

No 7 :Quit coffee

But replaced with tea (how silly)

No 8:Be positive and enjoy life more
Always remember that things could be worse when something bad happen. Tomorrow will be a better day!

( A great piece of message from lovely friend- Always REMEMBER !! )

Last but not least, to all friends, HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011 from Siaopo !

Goodbye 2010 Hello 2011

Yes, we're at the cusp of the new year.

Even as the horrific snow continues to hit England, Siaopo continue to clasp her hands and give thanks to GOD everyday for
what she have been. ( 1 John 4:7-21 : God is Love )

Siaopo's Thank List :

Siaopo's healthy happy husband
Siaopo's healthy happy family back home
Healthy happy Siaopo....

The
6 months since Siaopo stopped blogging have passed in a blink.

For once, time passed faster than Siaopo expected.
(When Siaopo was working in corporate sector, time always seemed to crawl by)

Yes, Siaopo had anticipated another struggle-journey - a career change FINALLY !

Well, the 31-year-old Siaopo, has no children of her own but chose a career in education
because she loves kids and all about being around with children.

September 2010, that's the month Siaopo re-starts her academic career, nearly 6 years after graduating her first post-graduate master degree in Northumbria. This time, for her second post-graduate, she's doing it with Durham University for a change.

The journey so-far has been tough but fun.

Juggling and struggling between work and study, Siaopo is mighty pleased that she'd made it through
the first part, at least.

2010 is the year Siaopo did a big change in her career life and put her mind to it.

2011 will demand even more out of her, but she welcome it.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year, everyone.

Eight years old twin brother O and E asked Siaopo, " Auntie, what do you want for Christmas this year from Santa?"

Auntie Siaopo replied " Hmmm...maybe a baby please ?"

Replied the boys, " Nope. You can't have a baby. Pressie from Santa needs to be wrapped up and put under the tree and you can't wrap baby up! Can you think of something else? "

It was absolutely hilarious..ha ha. Auntie Siaopo couldn't stop laughing. Kids are funny !
